“Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one”

– Bruce Lee

I know I am a mortal man and that one day my time on earth would eventually run its course. However, I do know that all that I have done will have a lasting impact on those I share my life with and especially on myself if I had fulfilled my desires and made my close ones happy. I think the impact is much more poignant than the impression. I don’t wish to impress or live up to an ideal whatever that might be, because that would mean I am “manufactured” or was made to be compressed into a mould that isn’t me. I want to live on my terms, of course, while being a respectable and contributing member of society, nevertheless authentically. Life has been ridiculously dynamic in the last couple of months with changes in every direction of my life. It is interesting to see how much I have grown as well as how resilient I have become in my twenties than I ever had been at any point of time in my life, dear friends. I have accepted with a serenity that life will always have changes but it is how you deal with it that determines if you have learned anything from them.

Yes, I am undoubtedly consciously living right now. Things used to be slow, but good things and a solid foundation require cautious planning and sometimes progress requires pacing. Those in-between pauses/ quietness just like in a melody highlights the note itself and without the pauses, we would not have rhythm and tempo. It should not be mistaken as stagnation. We should never compare with another because we are unaware fully of their stories, the backdrop of their struggles nor of their heart’s desires, and hence dear friends we are all forging our paths and should focus solely on the road ahead on our journey.

I do not recognise the naive little girl I used to be when it comes to global affairs, relationships, family disputes, and career ambitions. I have learnt that there isn’t a special password like “open sesame” to a cave full of gold and riches nor a fairy godmother to wish upon a carriage to take you to a place of success. However, if we learnt to develop skillsets to tunnel through a cave or get around a horse to take you to the prince’s palace, you will get there and yes on your terms. You will even get to set the password on that cave too. That’s one reason why I blog so that whoever that do chance upon my articles or reflections will leave this place contemplative on re-centering their life’s map or even hopefully feel re-energised to pursue the life that they want. Books, studying history and writing are such great platforms to expand your thoughts as well as the world that we live in and that is why I love sharing my reading lists and original short stories on here. Learning should never cease till the day we expire.

I think we owe it to ourselves to craft out the path that we ought to thread for ourselves, and if not for ourselves at least for our loved ones (for those altruistic few out there, you know I am talking to you). Nevertheless, I am forging my path, and that is one of gratitude for everything that has happened to me thus far, both the good and the bad, and the various bitter lessons that I had to go through to be who I am today. I am still a work in progress but I know that being an eternal student of life, I will conscientiously learn to receive, take feedback and hone myself into a person that would impact rather than impress. I do this for myself. As the legend said himself above, pray for strength. We must epitomise strength in all definitions of that word. Take courage my friends, we are stronger than we know so do not give up and keep persevering. Thank you for reading.

  1. Use all your challenges and imperfections as stimulus, for directions and waypoints will emerge that transcend and define our situation and celebrate ‘our’ emergent identity. Don’t punish yourself, as many others will gladly lift you , of that burden.

Additionally, remembered to model life choices that are evolving and challenging, otherwise playing it safe, will lead to disillusionment and possible stagnation!
